"The services; veteran Cameron's funeral," Inverness Courier, Nov. 22, 1910, p. 6e. "The funeral of the late Mr John Arthur (late 79th Cameron Highlanders), who served in the Crimean War and Indian Mutiny, took place from his house, 7 Ballingry Lane, Lochgelly, to Mossgreen Church-yard, near Crossgates, with military honours. His old regiment was represented by Sergeant Sweeny, Piper Chisholm, and men of the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, and Mr Macleod (secretary) and Mr Halliday (president), of the Fife Branch of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders' Association. After service at the house, the remains, wrapped in the Union Jack, were carried to the main street by old veterans, who did a similar duty at the grave. Beautiful wreaths included one bearing the inscription, 'From all ranks, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders.' Another was from the Fife Branch. As a tribute of deepest sympathy from the Fife Branch, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders' Association, in remembrance of an old veteran of the regiment." |
