"A Crimean veteran," Inverness Courier, Aug. 4, 1904, p. 5b. "The death has taken place at Penicuik of Corporal Alex. Corbett, a native of Avoch, Ross-shire. He joined the 93rd Highlanders, and afterwards transferred to the 92nd and 55th Regiments. He went out with the latter regiment to Turkey and to the Crimea, serving with them at Alma, Inkerman, and in the trenches. He was for over 20 years a warder at Glencorse Military Prison. He was about 80 years of age." |
