"Crimean veteran dead," Inverness Courier, July 28, 1914, p. 7c-d.

"By the death of Mr Francis Dobbie, 55 William St., Dundee, another of the fast-disappearing band of Crimean and Indian Mutiny veterans in the city has passed away. Mr Dobbie, who was 77 years of age, was born in Dundee, and in 1853, and when a lad of 16, he enlisted in the 93rd Highlanders, now the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. In the following year his regiment was called to the Crimea, and young Dobbie saw service in that memorable campaign for fully two years. No sooner had he returned to England when the 93rd was ordered to China. On the passage east news reached home of the Mutiny in India, and the vessel on which the 93rd was proceeding to China was ordered to land the troops at Calcutta. Mr Dobbie saw service in India under Sir Colin Campbell, General Havelock, and others, and on returning to Dundee, and retired from the army in 1867, he received the Crimean, Turkish, and Indian Mutiny medals. He was a member of the National Reserve."
