"Death of a Crimean veteran," Inverness Courier, May 14, 1912, p. 7a-b. "A Crimean veteran passed away in Stirling last week in the person of Sergeant-Instructor John Dunk, who was interred in Stirling Cemetery on Friday with full military honours. Deceased, who was 75 years of age, formerly served in the Leicesters, with whom he saw service in the Crimea, and was afterwards on the staff of the 3rd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Stirlingshire Militia). He retired 17 years ago, when he was appointed clubmaster to the Stirling Club. In addition to the Crimean medal, deceased held the long service and good conduct medals. Sergeant Dunk was well known-in Stirling and was highly respected." |
