"He commanded the 89th Regiment in the Crimean campaign, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and received medal with clasp, C.B., Knight of the Legion of Honour, 4th class of the Medjidieh, and Turkish Medal." Colonel of the South Lancashire Regiment, 1872-1887, and Royal Irish Fusiliers, 1887-1891, and retired in 1891. Married twice, a daughter of J. Sinclair, Freswick, Caithness, and, in 1864, a daughter of Jonathan Worthington, Cheltenham.
