"Croy. - Many in this district were sorry to hear of the death of Pipe-Major Grigor Fraser, which took place suddenly last Sunday. Lately, through the kindness of The Mackintosh, a nice cottage was placed at the Pipe-Major's disposal, so that the old soldier ended his days in comfort. Enlisting in the year 1855 in the Gordon Highlanders, he was soon after ordered to the Crimea, but learned at Gibraltar that peace had been proclaimed, whereupon the destination of the troopship was changed to India, and Fraser bore his share of the hardships and fighting of the Mutiny. The deceased was much liked in this district. He leaves a widow and grown-up family."
