"While in the 79th Cameron Highlanders, deceased took part in several engagements, being present during the Crimean campaign, and taking an active part in the fighting at Sevastopol, Balaklava, and Alma. He held the Crimean medal and three clasps for these engagements." "Macewan was of a quiet disposition, and few were aware of his many experiences of warfare, in the course of which he never received a serious wound." Served during Indian Mutiny, earned Lucknow Medal and Clasp, transf. to 26th Foot in 1864, earned Abyssinian medal. Buried with military honors in Tomnahurich Cemetery, Inverness. Large funeral procession from Grant Street included two pipers who led way playing "Flowers of the Forest, a hearse and 14 Camerons with reversed rifles. |
