"On Saturday military honours were accorded the funeral of Sergeant Mathew Murphy, formerly of the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders. Deceased, who was a native of Kildare, Ireland, was aged 77. Enlisting in the 93rd Highlanders he went through the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny with his regiment. He was one of the 'Thin Red Line' at Balaclava, fought at Inkerman and Sebastopol, and took part in the relief of Lucknow and the Mutiny."
