"Death of Edinburgh Crimean Veteran," Inverness Courier, June 10, 1913, p. 7d.

"There has passed away in Edinburgh, in his 93rd year, a Crimean veteran in the person of Mr Duncan Robertson, who resided at 200 Canongate. He enlisted before he was nineteen years of age, and served 13½ years in the Fusilier regiment, and 21 years in the 92nd Highlanders. He took part in the engagements at Alma, Inkerman, Balaclava, and at the seige of Sebastopol, and he also saw service in the Indian Mutiny. He was a total abstainer, lived to the last with a strict regard for hygiene, and it is said that he never had a day's illness in his long career. During most of his service he was a private, but was latterly promoted to the rank of corporal."
