"Death of a Balaclava Hero," Inverness Courier, June 24, 1898, p. 5c. Alexander Robinson, an Enniskillen native, Balaclava charge survivor and 21-year veteran, died Wednesday in Glasgow and was buried Saturday [doesn't say where]. Born Enniskillen, 1828, joined Inniskilling Dragoons 1846, went to Crimea in 1854 and served entire campaign. "He took part in all the general engagements except the storming of the Alma heights, and he rode in the historic charge of the Heavy Brigade. The warrior and his mare Jenny were presented to the Queen at Aldershot, who claped both on the shoulder and said they were a clever pair." Served Gen. Laurison and Duke of Cambridge as orderly, served in Indian Mutiny and left service in 1867. |
