"Death of a Crimean Veteran," Inverness Courier, May 7, 1897, p. 4c. A funeral brief for Pte. George Ross, 60, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, died May 4, 1897, and buried with military honours. "He received a wound while scaling the heights of Alma, the right leg being carried off by a gun shot. Ross was amongst those who were nursed by Florence Nightingale in one of the hospitals at Scutari." Received a small pension for life from disablement, married and raised four daughters. [Obit doesn't list his town or cemetery, but the likelyhood was Inverness area.]
