Can you help identify this quilt?
We have been asked to try and identify the origins of this extraordinary quilt. Our contact told us: "The photo is a patchwork quilt ca.1855-70, which was bought by an Australian in a London sale room, is constructed of military uniform fabrics, most likely by a tailor (deduced from the length of the gold stripes, which are cut from a bolt rather than recovered from uniforms). We believe the signatories are Aberdeen, with Gladstone standing behind. Disraeli is standing in front of the door and Lord Cardigan is seated at the table with the model artillery piece. It is quite large: the photo shows it draped over a two-seater couch." The owners would love to know the identity of the original illustration used for the central scene.
